Painkiller Heaven's got a Hitman
Painkiller is a first-person horror shooter, designed to satisfy a
gamer's hunger for intense, fast-paced action. It’s an adrenaline addict’s
nightmare, where hellish monsters swarm in seemingly endless mobs. Graphically,
Painkiller is unmatched. Played out over more than 20 completely unique and
different levels, the proprietary 3D engine puts out 100X the polygons of the
latest shooters, while adding increased texture quality and the latest lighting
and shadowing techniques.
You play as Daniel Garner, a seemingly regular
guy who has just been killed in a horrific car accident. Trapped in a dark and
unwelcoming world between heaven and hell, you struggle to uncover the reasons
why you've been denied entry into heaven. Awaiting your purification, you must
fight through an endless number of demon soldiers as you attempt to stop an
imminent unholy war.
Features:
Intense gameplay: The player will be constantly outnumbered, fighting
against seemingly insurmountable odds.
Next-generation graphics: The game uses the proprietary 3D “PAIN Engine”
capable of pumping out 100X the polygons of some of the latest shooters, while
adding increased texture quality and the latest lighting and shadowing
techniques.
Lasting replay value: Painkiller features a standard single player
campaign, with additional modes to encourage replay. The game also features
full multiplayer support.
Combo weapons: All weapons come in pairs, with a primary and secondary
fire.
Morphing: Your unholy pact gives you the power to morph into a powerful
possessed creature with every 100 souls collected.
Monster AI: Advanced AI coding will simulate group behaviors. Monsters
don't spawn onto the map, they patrol. They are constantly aware of the
player, and will coordinate their attacks by retreating, regrouping and
counterattacking.
Physics Engine: Painkiller employs the Havok 2.0 physics
engine, allowing for inverse kinematics ("rag-doll physics") and
deformable, interactive environments
Multiplayer:
Painkiller's multiplayer has
been designed to capture the excitement of the "old-school" shooters, while
brining gameplay up to date with the inclusion of mind-blowing graphics, insane
physics, and input from hundreds of hardcore gamers worldwide. Features include
demo recording, spectator mode, player voting and more. There are five
multiplayer modes available, played out over 7 maps:
Deathmatch - The objective in Deathmatch is to kill as many
opponents as possible in the time provided. You're on your own in this one.
Kill or be killed.
Team Deathmatch - A mutation of Deathmatch, in which the
competition is between teams made up of a number of players, each trying to
"outkill" the other teams.
People Can Fly - A modification of Deathmatch one on one, pushing
the limits of physics - based multiplay. Only equipped with the Rocket
Launcher/Chaingun, you can only score damage against your opponent while he's
in the air - use your Rocket Launcher to send him airborne, and finish him off
with your Chaingun!
Voosh - Voosh is a multiplayer mode in which each player has the
same weapon. After a certain period of time each player's weapon is switched
to either the next in line (set by the server), or a random one. All weapons
have infinite ammo. Voosh is played out over two additional maps, only
available for this mode.
The Light Bearer - In Light Bearer, Quad Damage wears off. The
first player who grabs it can use it as long as they stay alive. Which won't
be for very long, since you'll be hunted by everyone else on the map. When he
is dead, he drops the Quad, and another player can pick it up. The winner is a
person who has the Quad at the end of the game.
Engine:
The
proprietary PAIN Engine puts out 100X the polygons of the latest shooters, while
adding increased texture quality and the latest lighting and shadowing
techniques. Plug in the Havok 2.0 physics engine, and you get a realistic
environment in a totally fantastical setting. The game features 24 single-player
levels, each entirely unique with virtually no texture reuse between levels. The
average level is 350,000 polygons, and also incorporates advanced vertex and
pixel shaders, including water, glass, volumetric lights and fog,
etc.
